A New Era

I thought long and hard about what new content I was going to put up for the next couple of months. I have decided to keep the world tyers on the side bar since it's easy access for everyone. I'll try to add more here and there. I strongly urge you to search thru each site as they all hold a great deal of information and each one offers a little something different.
I have been working on a new project called videography, which is why this issue is called "A NEW ERA"
With the advent of sites like "You Tube" and "My Space" that support video uploading, a new tool is being introduced to the tying community. Pictures will always be around but in fly tying tutorials and step by steps on the web they could become a side note rather than a main attraction.
We are living in a time where technology is advancing at an accelerated rate of which the likes have never before been seen and we'll just naturally evolve with it.
So just think of WMV as the new JPEG.
If you have a digital camera that was purchased in the last couple of years, then there is a good chance it has video capabilities. I have a Sony DCW5 5.1 MP that I have shot a couple of videos with now. It's not the best thing and certainly has its limitations but it worked. On the highest resolution setting with my current memory card I could get 3 minutes of video and 10 minutes at the lower setting. I prefered to use the higher setting and then edit the clips together for longer videos. I just recently picked up a new Panasonic GS320 miniDV camera so that I can do more and get better quality results. I haven't uploaded any videos from it yet but I will be doing so soon.
I hope to eventually upgrade to a much better camera but for now I'll be using the GS320.
I encourage all of you to give videography a try.If you have Windows XP or Vista then you should have a version of Windows Movie Maker. It has some pretty good features and is relatively easy to use. There is more software available out there but this is something you already have so try it out. You can add videos, make slide shows, add in music and do lots of editing. It is really fun to play with and some pretty neat transitions and effects to play with.
At the top of the side bar you'll see a link under Videography that will take you to my page at of videos that are on You Tube. There isn't a whole lot there but, I am working on a few projects similar to the Fish Dayz. Please check in from time to time as I hope to have some new stuff up soon. Since the salmon run is just starting and the steelhead and lake run browns will be here soon I hope to have a few new adventure videos to put up as time allows. This will all take place between now and late November.
Below you'll see an embedded video that is a slideshow set to music with some simple transitions. It was all put together on Windows Movie Maker. This is titled "Art of the Salmon Fly" and is part 2 of an ongoing project. This slideshow features the flies of Bud Guidry. I hope you enjoy viewing his wonderful creations.

Argus Pheasant

I have finaly finished the short article about the Argus Pheasant. It's not much but I did what I could to compile a number of things together into one article.
You can get to the article by either clicking Argus or by clicking the photo at the top of the right side column.

Solitude Reel Review

I finished the review for the Solitude 2 fly reel that is now being manufactured by Edco Inc. Instead of putting it here as a duplicate I'll just post a link to it on Talkflyfishing.com

Moving forward

My plan is to update the site every so often and sometimes it will be the same for a couple of months, especially the main page articles. I will add in stuff from time to time and I will start an archives page or something of that nature soon. I have a few projects in the works and I am always happy to display anyones works of art and I can even set up a page of flies. I just need the pics. If you want to email them to me I'll be glad to do so.
If you have any questions or comments you can contact me, Fred, by sending an e-mail to salmontyer@yahoo.com
